Counsellor Aguila Saleh Issa, President of the Asian-African Parliamentary Council (AAPC) and Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives, received today, Wednesday, 22 July 2026, at the House of Representatives headquarters in Benghazi, Mr. Giulio Centemero, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM), and the accompanying delegation.
During the meeting, Counsellor Aguila Saleh Issa, in his capacity as President of the Asian-African Parliamentary Council (AAPC), and Mr. Giulio Centemero, in his capacity as President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM), signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation aimed at establishing a strategic partnership, strengthening parliamentary cooperation in support of shared interests, and expanding coordination and consultation on issues of mutual concern.
The Memorandum also provides for the granting of Permanent Observer Status to each organization within the other, thereby enhancing institutional cooperation, facilitating the exchange of expertise, and promoting participation in joint parliamentary activities and events.
It is worth noting that the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) brings together 31 full member states, representing the parliaments of countries on both shores of the Mediterranean, as well as the parliaments of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states.
