Counsellor Aguila Saleh Issa, President of the Asian African Parliamentary Council (AAPC) and Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives, received today, Wednesday, 22 July 2026, at the headquarters of the House of Representatives in Benghazi, Mr. Giulio Centemero, President of the Parliament of the Mediterranean (PAM), together with his accompanying delegation.

The Parliament of the Mediterranean brings together 31 full member states, representing countries from both shores of the Mediterranean, as well as the parliaments of the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

The delegation included:

  • Mr. Bilal Qasim, Vice President of the Parliament.
  • Mr. Sergio Piazzi, Secretary General of the Parliament.
  • Ms. Marwa Ali Maher, Chief Media Affairs Officer.

Also attending the meeting were:

  • Mr. Misbah Douma, Second Deputy Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives.
  • Members of Parliament Sabah Jumaa and Abu Al-Khair Al-Shaab, members of the Parliament of the Mediterranean.
  • Mr. Abdullah Al-Masri Al-Fadheel, Chief of Staff of the Libyan House of Representatives and Deputy Secretary General of the Asian African Parliamentary Council.
  • Mr. Fayez Al-Shawabkeh, Secretary General of the Asian African Parliamentary Council.

During the visit, the two sides are expected to discuss ways to strengthen parliamentary dialogue and enhance institutional cooperation between the Asian African Parliamentary Council and the Parliament of the Mediterranean. Discussions will also focus on the signing of Memoranda of Understanding aimed at establishing strategic partnerships and advancing parliamentary cooperation in support of shared interests.
