The President of the Asian–African Parliamentary Council and First Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Mr. Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, received in his office today (Sunday) the President of the Advisory Council of the Asian–African Parliamentary Council, Mr. Allam Al-Kandari, where they discussed the possibility of holding the upcoming meeting of the Asian–African Council in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, as well as the main frameworks and key agenda items that should be included in light of current regional challenges.

In this context, the two sides reviewed the Council’s future vision and its upcoming strategic directions, in addition to emphasizing the importance of following up on the recommendations of the Beirut Conference in a way that reflects the scale of developments taking place in the region. Al-Mandalawi stressed the need for the Council to expand its role in coordinating unified and effective parliamentary positions that represent the aspirations of the peoples of Asia and Africa and contribute to shaping joint political, security, and developmental solutions.

It is noteworthy that the Council — officially announced during its founding conference in Beirut in September 2025 under the presidency of Al-Mandalawi — was established to create a permanent parliamentary framework bringing together the parliaments of Asia and Africa, strengthening dialogue and cooperation, and restoring the rightful place of both continents in global decision-making.
